Deadly Collision Turns Bus Into Inferno

The Volvo bus owned by Kaveri Travels had 41 passengers on board when the accident occurred around 3:00-3:10 AM on National Highway 44, it was traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru. A two-wheeler rammed the bus and became trapped underneath it. The fire engulfed the bus within minutes, trapping several dozens of passengers inside, as most of the passengers were asleep. Sparks from the dragged bike and leaking fuel are believed to have triggered a fire that spread rapidly through the vehicle. Over 20 people were killed and several others injured in the devastating incident. Several died without even realizing what was happening, while others who woke up amid the chaos tried desperately to escape through shattered windows. The blaze completely charred the sleeper bus, reducing it to a metal skeleton.

Survivors Break Windows to Flee Burning Vehicle

 

Emergency crews arrived at the sight of a gutted bus, while survivors recounted terrifying moments of panic and fear. Some passengers managed to smash open windows and leap to safety with minor injuries, while others were burned to death before help could arrive.

Eighteen passengers managed to escape from the burning bus and are being treated for injuries. Before firefighters could put out the fire, the bus was completely destroyed. Locals from a nearby kiosk hurried to assist, but the weather made their attempts difficult.

Victims Include Entire Family Returning from Diwali Celebrations

 

An entire family returning from the Diwali celebration was killed in the tragedy. Among the dead were four members of the same family identified as Golla Ramesh (35), Anusha (30), Manivata (10) and Manisha (12). Officials ordered DNA tests since many of the victims were so badly burned that they could not be identified. The deceased include passengers from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh.Nine victims are still unidentified, while eleven bodies have been identified. In order to assist with the transportation of dead and survivors, thirteen ambulances were dispatched from Hyderabad to Kurnool. Control rooms have been set up by the Kurnool District Collector's office and at the local hospital to assist families of victims.

Leaders Express their Condolences

 

The families of the deceased received condolences from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the PM's National Relief Fund for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. President Droupadi Murmu said in her

 

condolence statement that, "The loss of lives in a tragic bus fire accident in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, is deeply unfortunate. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured."

 

Investigations Focus on Negligence and Overspeeding

Authorities have filed charges against the main bus driver and co-driver, believing that negligence and speeding had a role in the tragedy. Preliminary findings suggest if the vehicle had halted soon after impact, the scale of devastation would have been lessened. As criticism of the private bus industry's inadequate safety procedures mounts, forensic teams are examining the debris. Following the terrible incident, Chief Minister Naidu has mandated a thorough investigation and statewide safety assessments of private buses. To determine the precise cause and sequence of the fire, a forensic team is examining the wrecked car.

Police have arrested one driver and are looking for the other, and DNA testing is being done to identify the victims.

The deadly bus fire was the second such accident in India in less than fortnight. This tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the urgent need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations and improved emergency response systems on India's highways.
