India Sends 68.5 Tonnes of Relief and Expertise to Flood-Hit Nepal

The Indian embassy in Kathmandu confirmed that this assistance includes not only essential supplies but also technical teams, forensic experts, and advanced equipment crucial for search and rescue operations.

The floods, which struck on a Wednesday, have been described as devastating, leading to a dire situation where many individuals, particularly workers at hydropower projects, have become trapped in tunnels due to the sudden onset of severe weather. In response, India has mobilized a specialized technical contingent that includes tunnel experts equipped with the necessary tools for effective search and rescue operations. This contingent is particularly focused on hydropower tunnels, where the likelihood of trapped individuals is high, as reported by the Indian Embassy on Saturday.

As part of the relief efforts, a fourth flight carrying an additional 11 tonnes of assistance arrived in Nepal on Sunday, as detailed in a post by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on the social media platform X. This shipment is critical as it contains a variety of essential items, including blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, plastic sheets, and hygiene kits, all of which are vital for the affected populations. The MEA also highlighted the inclusion of a forensic team tasked with DNA analysis, recognizing the need for specialized skills in the aftermath of such a disaster.
