Qatar's Ministry of Education announces new subjects and curriculum updates for the 2026-2027 academic year, emphasizing science, AI, and life skills.

On 24 August 2026, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced the introduction of new study materials and updates to some existing materials for the new academic year (2026–2027).

This move is part of its commitment to the continuous development of curricula, the transition towards competency-based and innovation-driven education, and the integration of technology and artificial intelligence, which contributes to keeping pace with modern technological developments and digital transformation, meeting the requirements of sustainable development, and addressing the needs of the labour market.

The ministry has developed science education for Grade 10 by introducing a unified curriculum combining physics, chemistry, and biology in a balanced educational framework. This helps students understand the links between different branches of science while preparing them for the secondary stage and their academic and professional futures.

Learning science is not limited to acquiring facts and concepts but also contributes to developing scientific curiosity, searching for and documenting information, teamwork, critical and creative thinking, following the steps of scientific inquiry in collecting, analysing, and drawing conclusions from data, in addition to clear communication, problem-solving, and commitment to ethical values.

The primary goal of introducing science as a tenth-grade subject is to attract students to scientific fields and alleviate the academic burden resulting from the multitude of subjects and exams. The subject is currently being introduced gradually in public schools and private schools that follow the national curriculum.

Life and Professional Skills

Life and professional skills is an important educational subject offered across all three stages: primary, preparatory, and secondary education. It aims to prepare students for practical and social life and enable them to acquire the skills needed to succeed in their personal and professional lives.

Financial and Information Literacy

The material includes a diverse range of programmes and fields that meet students' needs and interests, most notably the Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship Programme, which introduces students to the concepts of money management and entrepreneurship, and the Information Literacy Programme, which develops skills in researching, evaluating, and effectively using information.

Family Culture

It also includes a family culture programme that promotes family values and social responsibility and builds healthy family and social relationships.

Home Economics and Life Management

Additionally, there is a home economics programme for girls that focuses on household management, cooking and sewing skills, personal care, and first aid.

For boys, a life management programme is offered, covering camping and land and sea trip skills, first aid, and self-reliance skills.

A self-development programme is also dedicated to high school students. It aims to help them identify their interests and abilities, choose appropriate educational specialisations, plan for the future, and prepare for university life and the labour market.

New Self-Learning Programmes

The Ministry will also offer self-learning materials to high school students through its official platforms during the first semester of the 2026–2027 academic year.

The programmes will cover:

  • Artificial Intelligence, in cooperation with Injaz Qatar Foundation
  • Economy and Trade, in cooperation with Qatar Development Bank
  • Data Science, in cooperation with Cisco Academy

Through the introduction of self-learning materials, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education seeks to provide flexible educational opportunities that enable students to develop their knowledge and skills and benefit from interactive educational content in a number of fields, thus supporting the skills they will need in the future and enhancing their university and professional readiness.

This initiative also allows students to obtain accredited digital certificates after completing the workshops and fulfilling the requirements of each subject, which contributes to documenting their achievements and enhancing their portfolios.
