Kuwait's Education Ministry Receives New Textbooks Ahead of Academic Year

Kuwait City, Kuwait Aug 24, 2026 ALN: The Ministry of Education in Kuwait is currently in the process of receiving new textbooks, marking a significant step in the preparations for the upcoming academic year. This initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to enhance the educational landscape in the country, ensuring that students have access to updated and relevant learning materials.

As of now, the Supplies and Warehouses Department of the Ministry has begun to receive the first batches of these new textbooks. The government printing press, which operates under the Ministry of Information, has successfully completed the delivery of the initial batch that covers the 11th and 12th-grade curricula. This is a crucial phase as the ministry aims to ensure that all necessary educational materials are available before the academic year commences. The printing of several intermediate-stage textbooks is also ongoing, with expectations that all deliveries will be finalized before the deadline of September 1.

In addition to the government-printed textbooks, which are estimated to total around 2 million copies, private printing presses have also started to deliver the curricula they were contracted to produce. This collaborative approach aims to diversify the sources of educational materials and ensure a steady supply. The first deliveries from private presses include portions of curricula for various grades, with a particular focus on the new 10th-grade curriculum. The remaining textbooks are anticipated to be delivered by the end of August, allowing schools adequate time to prepare for the new academic year.

The new academic year is set to commence on September 6, when teaching and administrative staff will return to their duties, followed by the students starting their classes on September 13. The timely distribution of textbooks is critical, as it directly impacts the learning experience of students. To facilitate this process, the Supplies and Warehouses Department has allocated approximately 20 half-lorry transport vehicles that will be utilized to distribute textbooks across various schools in Kuwait. This logistical effort is essential to ensure that all schools receive their materials promptly and can begin the year on a strong footing.

Moreover, the transport vehicles will also play a role in delivering school and office furniture to five newly established schools located in Al-Mutlaa and West Abdullah Al-Mubarak. This delivery includes thousands of chairs and tables, as well as technical equipment necessary for teachers' rooms and school administrations. The construction of new schools and the provision of adequate resources reflect the government's commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and accommodating the growing student population in Kuwait.

In a related development, the Acting Secretary General of Kuwait University, Dr. Noura Al-Suwaih, has reached out to the Ministry of Education’s Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs, Hamad Al-Hamad, to discuss the nomination of social workers who will supervise the field training of male and female social work students. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to bolster the collaboration between the university and the Ministry of Education, aiming to enhance the professional skills of students as they prepare to enter the labor market.

Dr. Al-Suwaih emphasized the importance of this training program, which is scheduled to take place during the first semester from December 16 to 21. The training will be conducted for five hours a day on Mondays and Wednesdays. To ensure the quality of the training, she has requested a list of qualified social workers who will oversee the students. Candidates for the supervisory roles are required to hold a bachelor’s degree in social work and possess at least seven years of professional experience. This requirement underscores the university's commitment to providing students with high-quality, practical training that will equip them with the necessary skills to succeed in their future careers.
