Red Shield Division Celebrates Onam in Manipur's Andro

Imphal, India Aug 28, 2026 ALN: Imphal: The Red Shield Division of the Indian Army celebrated Onam at Andro in Manipur’s Imphal East, bringing together nearly 200 people from different communities, including members of the Naga, Meitei, and Kom communities. This celebration not only commemorated a significant festival in the southern state of Kerala but also served as a platform for fostering unity among diverse ethnic groups in the northeastern part of India.

Onam, traditionally celebrated in Kerala, marks the homecoming of the mythical King Mahabali and is characterized by various cultural festivities, including elaborate feasts known as Onam Sadhya, traditional dances, and music. The significance of Onam extends beyond mere celebration; it embodies the spirit of togetherness and the rich cultural tapestry of India. Around 30 schoolchildren from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Andro, along with civil and military dignitaries, attended the celebration.
