Public Transport Resumes Between Imphal and Guwahati Amid Tensions

Imphal, India Aug 25, 2026 ALN: Imphal: Public transport services along the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati route via National Highway-2 have resumed operations for the third consecutive day on Monday, following a period of heightened tensions in the region. Over 250 passengers, including women and children, embarked on their journeys from Imphal to Dimapur and Guwahati in a convoy consisting of five buses and seven Winger vehicles, all under stringent security measures.

This resumption of services comes in the wake of a troubling incident that occurred at Taphou village in the Senapati District, where tensions flared between two local communities. The situation at Taphou village, situated along NH-2, temporarily delayed the departure of the transport vehicles. As a result, the vehicles were able to depart for Dimapur and Guwahati around 1 PM, with both communities involved agreeing to uphold peace in the area.
