This operation was executed on Wednesday night, and officials have described it as a major breakthrough in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.

According to a defense spokesman, the joint operation led to the recovery of 5.60 lakh highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, which collectively weigh around 60 kg. The estimated value of these tablets exceeds Rs 168 crore, underscoring the scale of the drug trafficking operation that was being conducted. The authorities apprehended a drug peddler during the operation, and they also seized a truck that was allegedly used for transporting the contraband. The Chin state of Myanmar is recognized as a major hub for the trafficking of various drugs, exotic wildlife, and other contraband into India, particularly through six districts of Mizoram—Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual, and Serchhip.

Moreover, five districts of Manipur—Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Kamjong, and Ukhrul—share a 398-km-long unfenced international border with Myanmar. In addition, Mizoram has a 510 km unfenced border with Myanmar and a 318 km border with Bangladesh. The porous nature of these borders complicates efforts to curb drug trafficking and necessitates enhanced cooperation between Indian law enforcement and their counterparts in neighboring countries.

The recent seizure of methamphetamine tablets in Assam is among the most significant recoveries in the Northeast region in recent times.
