Three New Parks Open in Al Wakrah and Al Wukair to Enhance Community Spaces

Doha, Qatar Aug 27, 2026 ALN: The Ministry of Municipality has officially inaugurated three new parks in Al Wakrah and Al Wukair, enhancing the community landscape and providing residents with additional green spaces for walking, playing, and relaxing close to their homes. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of urban development in Qatar, emphasizing the importance of green spaces in enhancing the quality of life for citizens and residents.

The newly opened parks, named Al Mashmoum and Al Khuzama in Al Wakrah, and Al Arak in Al Wukair, were developed by the Ministry's Public Parks Department in collaboration with the Public Works Authority, known as Ashghal. These parks have been constructed to meet international standards, ensuring they will serve the community effectively for many years to come. The design and execution of these parks reflect a commitment to creating sustainable environments where community members can engage in outdoor activities.

This project is part of the Ministry of Municipality's strategic plan for 2024-2030, which supports Qatar National Vision 2030. The inauguration event was attended by notable figures, including Mohamed bin Ali al-Athba, the chairman of the Central Municipal Council, and Abdullah Ahmed al-Karani, the assistant undersecretary for public services affairs at the Ministry of Municipality. Their presence, along with other senior ministry officials and Ashghal representatives, underscores the significance of this initiative in the broader context of community development and public service enhancement.

The names of the parks—Al Mashmoum, Al Khuzama, and Al Arak—are derived from local flora, which is a deliberate choice aimed at reinforcing national identity. This naming convention not only celebrates the country’s environmental and cultural heritage but also helps in preserving local names in public facilities, ensuring that future generations remain connected to their roots. Each park is designed as a community neighborhood space offering a range of facilities. These include sports amenities, walking and running tracks, children's play areas, and restrooms, all aimed at enhancing usability and comfort for visitors.

Al Mashmoum Park, for instance, covers an area of 4,394 square meters, with 2,396 square meters dedicated to agricultural and planted areas, including 68 trees. This park features 927 square meters of pedestrian walkways and a 204-meter running track, encouraging visitors to engage in physical activities. Additionally, a 232-square-meter children's play area and a 45-square-meter outdoor fitness area are included, along with strategically placed restrooms and seating areas throughout the park, ensuring comfort and convenience for all visitors.

Al Khuzama Park spans 3,284 square meters, incorporating 1,376 square meters of green spaces with 59 trees. This park offers 900 square meters of pedestrian walkways and a 178-meter running track. Furthermore, it includes a 276-square-meter children's play area and a 32-square-meter fitness area equipped with modern exercise equipment, catering to the recreational needs of families and fitness enthusiasts alike.

Lastly, Al Arak Park covers an area of 3,936 square meters, with 2,126 square meters of green spaces that feature 56 trees. The park includes 844 square meters of pedestrian walkways and a 164-meter running track, promoting an active lifestyle. It also features a 222-square-meter children's play area and a 46-square-meter outdoor fitness area equipped with contemporary exercise equipment, complemented by restrooms and seating areas for visitors to relax.

The addition of these parks represents a significant investment in the community's well-being and quality of life.
