Government Expands Fertilizer Management System to Enhance Transparency

New Delhi, India Aug 31, 2026 ALN: New Delhi: The Centre is expanding the integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS) to link fertiliser sales with farmer, land and crop data, aiming to improve supply monitoring and transparency, the Department of Fertilizers said in a statement.

The platform covers more than 140 million Aadhaar-linked buyers, 250,000 retailers and around 70 million tonnes of fertiliser sales annually, while supporting nearly ₹2 lakh crore in fertiliser subsidies. iFMS is being integrated with Meri Fasal Mera Byora in Haryana and AgriStack, allowing fertiliser purchases to be matched with farmer and land records, the statement said.

Under the new Framework for Fertilizer Sale, farmers can book fertiliser using their AgriStack ID after verification of land details. A QR-based booking is then matched with the quantity purchased at the retailer's point-of-sale device.

The government is also using vehicle tracking to monitor fertiliser movement and strengthening electronic processing of subsidy claims through PFMS/e-Bill systems.

The broader aim is to turn iFMS from a transaction-recording system into a platform that can track where fertiliser is available, how it moves and whether the purchases align with agricultural requirements.
