Plans New Buddhist Circuit to Boost Tourism

Itanagar, India Jul 27, 2026 ALN: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein chaired a preliminary meeting here on Saturday to discuss the integration of Buddhist sites in eastern into a newly proposed Buddhist circuit for the North East Region, as announced in the Union Budget 2026-27.

The meeting was attended by Mebo MLA and National Tourism Advisory Council Northeast Chapter chairman Oken Tayeng, state Tourism Secretary Pagli Sora, Deputy Commissioner R. Khampa, tourism officials, and key stakeholders. The focus was on discussing Buddhist-inhabited areas in eastern such as Bordumsa, Miao, Jairampur, Vijaynagar, Namsai, Chongkham, Kaho, Tuting, Pemako, and Mechukha, which are earmarked for inclusion in the proposed circuit.

Officials noted that the region holds immense potential as a premier Buddhist tourism destination. The plan emphasizes improving connectivity, enhancing tourism infrastructure, and enriching visitor experiences while simultaneously preserving the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of these areas.
