Info Edge is set to acquire the remaining stake in Coding Ninjas for ₹39.9 Cr, aiming to enhance its offerings in the upskilling sector.
New Delhi, India Jul 6, 2026 ALN: Sanjeev Bikhchandani-led internet giant Info Edge is acquiring the remaining 45.36% stake in upskilling platform Coding Ninjas for ₹39.9 Cr in an all-cash deal. This acquisition marks a significant step for Info Edge as it seeks to consolidate its position in the rapidly evolving edtech sector, which has gained considerable traction in recent years due to the increasing demand for skill-based education.
In a filing with the exchanges, Info Edge announced that its board approved a proposal to acquire 74,741 shares in the startup from its founders at ₹5,340.23 apiece. Following this transaction, Info Edge will hold a 100% stake in Coding Ninjas through its subsidiary, Startup Investments (Holding) Ltd. This move is part of a broader strategy by Info Edge to enhance its portfolio in the edtech industry, which has seen explosive growth, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, which accelerated the shift towards online learning.
The co-founders of Coding Ninjas will continue their employment with Info Edge and will receive “certain salary and performance incentives” during their tenure. This arrangement is designed to ensure continuity and leverage the existing expertise of the founders, who have been instrumental in the growth and success of Coding Ninjas since its inception. By retaining the founding team, Info Edge aims to maintain the innovative spirit and operational knowledge that has driven Coding Ninjas' success in the competitive edtech landscape.
The deal is subject to the fulfillment of customary conditions and is expected to be completed within 45 days. After the transaction, Coding Ninjas will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Info Edge, allowing for more streamlined operations and strategic alignment with Info Edge’s broader business goals. This acquisition is indicative of a growing trend in the edtech sector where established companies are looking to acquire startups to enhance their offerings and market reach.
Info Edge stated that the transaction will be executed in multiple tranches. Initially, 25% (₹9.98 Cr) of the total amount will be disbursed upon closing the share price agreement, while the remaining 75% (₹29.9 Cr) will be paid in three equal tranches between 2027 and 2029. This phased approach to payment reflects a cautious investment strategy, allowing Info Edge to manage its cash flow while also ensuring that Coding Ninjas meets performance benchmarks before the full payment is made.
Elaborating on its rationale behind the buyout, Info Edge noted that the acquisition will leverage business synergies between its classified platform Naukri and the upskilling platform. As part of this strategy, Naukri plans to collaborate with Coding Ninjas to develop mini-AI courses for its users. This initiative underscores the growing importance of artificial intelligence in the job market and the need for professionals to upskill in this area. By integrating Coding Ninjas’ offerings with Naukri, Info Edge aims to create a unique value proposition that addresses the skills gap in the workforce.
Info Edge also emphasized that the deal will unlock growth and profitability improvements for Coding Ninjas. The edtech platform has already established a strong brand presence and a loyal customer base, and under Info Edge’s stewardship, it is expected to scale further and enhance its service offerings. The acquisition is poised to enhance Coding Ninjas’ capabilities, allowing it to innovate and expand its course offerings in response to market demand.
This acquisition comes six years after Info Edge first invested $5.2 million in the edtech startup during its Series A round in 2020. Two years later, in 2022, Info Edge infused an additional ₹135.4 Cr in the platform, increasing its stake from 26% to 51%. The company subsequently raised its ownership in Coding Ninjas through follow-on transactions, demonstrating a long-term commitment to the startup and a belief in its potential for growth. This strategy of gradual investment reflects a trend among venture capitalists and corporate investors who prefer to increase their stakes in promising startups as they mature.
Founded in 2016 by Ankur Singla, Kannu Mittal, and Dhawal Parate, Coding Ninjas is an edtech platform that offers coding bootcamps and certification courses in subjects such as data science, software development, AI, and other emerging technologies. The platform has gained a reputation for delivering high-quality education and practical training, which has attracted a diverse range of learners, from college students to working professionals seeking to upgrade their skills.
According to Info Edge’s latest filings, Coding Ninjas reported a net loss of ₹13.4 Cr in FY26, with a turnover of ₹97.4 Cr, unchanged from FY25 and up from ₹67.15 Cr in FY24. This financial performance indicates that while Coding Ninjas is growing its revenue, it is still investing heavily in its growth and expansion, which is common in the edtech sector where initial losses are often seen as a necessary trade-off for long-term growth potential.
Separately, Info Edge’s board also approved an additional commitment of up to ₹180 Cr in B8 Fund I, a Category II AIF managed by its subsidiary Smartweb Internet Services. This new infusion is in addition to the ₹250 Cr commitment approved earlier this year. Such investments reflect Info Edge’s strategy to diversify its portfolio and capitalize on emerging opportunities in various sectors, including technology and internet services.
Founded in 1995 by Bikhchandani, Info Edge manages online job portal Naukri.com, matrimony portal Jeevansathi.com, real estate marketplace 99acres.com, and edtech platform Shiksha. The company also invests in homegrown startups, including names such as Eternal and PB Fintech. Info Edge has established itself as a key player in the Indian internet landscape, leveraging its early mover advantage and expertise in online classifieds to build a robust business model.
Last month, Info Edge reported that it has invested ₹4,900 Cr in 135 startups, with its portfolio valued at ₹41,300 Cr, translating into an 8.4X multiple and a gross IRR of around 33%. Additionally, it has invested ₹1,003 Cr across 54 AI and deeptech startups from 2020 until March 2026. These investments highlight Info Edge's commitment to fostering innovation and supporting the growth of the startup ecosystem in India, particularly in high-growth areas such as artificial intelligence.
On the financial front, Info Edge’s net profit jumped 35% to ₹1,762.8 Cr in FY26, up from ₹1,309.9 Cr in the previous fiscal year. Meanwhile, revenue increased 15% year-on-year to ₹3,284.7 Cr during the fiscal year under review. This strong financial performance underscores the resilience of Info Edge’s business model and its ability to adapt to changing market conditions. As the company continues to expand its portfolio and invest in high-potential startups, it is well-positioned to capitalize on the growth opportunities in the Indian digital economy.
