Kuwait Cabinet Condemns Iranian Attacks, Praises Energy-Saving Campaign

Kuwait City, Kuwait Jul 22, 2026 ALN: The Cabinet on Tuesday strongly condemned the Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, describing them as a flagrant violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while reaffirming Kuwait’s right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its security and vital interests. The Cabinet meeting was chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Following the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shareeda Abdullah Al-Maousherji said the Cabinet was briefed on His Highness the Prime Minister’s visit to Al-Adan Hospital to check on those injured in the Iranian attacks and receiving medical treatment.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi. During the visit, His Highness affirmed the government’s commitment to closely monitoring the condition of the injured and providing all necessary medical and technical support until their full recovery. He directed relevant authorities to utilize all available resources to ensure the highest levels of healthcare and treatment, praying to God Almighty to grant the injured a speedy recovery.

His Highness also praised the national efforts and sacrifices of personnel from the Kuwait Army, Ministry of Interior and National Guard, as well as all government employees working to preserve the nation’s security and stability. The Cabinet expressed its strongest condemnation of the Iranian missile and drone attacks that targeted Kuwaiti territory in recent days, striking power and water desalination facilities, oil sector installations and other vital locations.

The attacks caused fires and significant damage to critical infrastructure, civilian facilities and residential buildings, representing, according to the Cabinet, a serious violation of international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter and Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). The Cabinet stressed that the repeated and deliberate targeting of civilian and vital facilities reflects a dangerous escalation and poses a direct threat to the safety and security of civilians.

It held Iran fully responsible, legally and morally, for the attacks and their consequences, warning that continued aggression threatens regional security and undermines efforts aimed at reducing tensions and achieving peaceful solutions. The Cabinet affirmed that Kuwait reserves its full right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and the principles of international law.

The Cabinet also condemned the Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan, describing them as violations of their sovereignty and territorial integrity and threats to the security of their citizens and residents. It affirmed Kuwait’s full solidarity with the three countries and support for measures taken to protect their security, sovereignty and stability. The Cabinet also condemned statements issued by the Houthi militia’s military spokesman containing allegations against Saudi Arabia and threats affecting maritime navigation. It reiterated Kuwait’s full support for Saudi Arabia, emphasizing that the Kingdom’s security is an integral part of the security of Kuwait and the GCC states.

Diplomatic developments

The Cabinet received a briefing from Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah on the latest regional developments and the military situation following the Iranian attacks against Kuwait. The minister affirmed the readiness of the armed forces and their continued effective performance of their duties, stressing their commitment to protecting Kuwait’s sovereignty, territory, security and citizens and residents. The Cabinet also heard a briefing from Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on the diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Kuwait’s missions abroad to address regional and international developments.

The Cabinet expressed appreciation to citizens, residents, government institutions, media outlets, the private sector and individuals for their positive response to the national “Wafer” campaign to rationalize electricity and water consumption. The Cabinet said the campaign contributed to spreading awareness through various platforms and strengthening the culture of conservation during the exceptional circumstances facing the country, helping support the stability of electricity and water services. It praised the public’s cooperation and sense of national responsibility, calling for continued efforts to conserve resources and maintain sustainable services.

Draft law approved

The Cabinet approved a draft decree-law on combating commercial concealment aimed at strengthening economic regulations, promoting transparency and fair competition, and protecting the national economy. The draft law prohibits enabling any person to conduct an economic activity on behalf of another person or outside the scope of the license granted to them. The draft was referred to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Development initiatives

The Cabinet also reviewed a presentation by Minister of State for Development and Sustainability Affairs Dr Reem Ghazi Al-Fulaij regarding the Green Urban Development Initiatives Committee. The presentation, delivered by Ahmadi Governor and committee chairman Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, covered initiatives submitted by oil sector companies, private companies, cooperative societies and individuals. The initiatives include landscaping projects, green spaces, artistic sculptures and monuments at intersections and public areas, renovation of agricultural works in residential areas, and painting bridges at major highway intersections to enhance Kuwait’s visual identity and promote sustainable urban development.

The Cabinet praised the committee’s efforts in coordinating with government entities, accelerating procedures and encouraging community participation in beautifying Kuwait and preserving its cultural heritage. The Cabinet also reviewed several agenda items, including reports and minutes from ministerial committees, approving a number of them and referring others to relevant committees for further study and recommendations. — KUNA
