UDF Government Celebrates 100 Days of Governance with Empathy

Thiruvananthapuram, India Aug 25, 2026 ALN: Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Monday stated that attempts by vested interests to discredit the State government will be emphatically rejected. In its first 100 days, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government has made significant strides in delivering ‘governance with empathy,’ he said. The Chief Minister also outlined programs aimed at positioning the state as a hub for digital technologies, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The government completes 100 days on Tuesday (August 25). This milestone is significant not only as a reflection of the administration's early achievements but also as an opportunity to set the tone for future governance. In a special article marking this milestone, Mr. Satheesan emphasized that the government will not succumb to pressure groups but will strive to resolve any issues. He noted that neither the Chief Minister nor the Ministers are above criticism. Criticism will be met with tolerance, and the government will not hesitate to make corrections if warranted. This approach underscores a commitment to transparency and responsiveness, which are vital in maintaining public trust.

Invest Cell and Future Initiatives

In line with evolving needs, the government plans to establish an Invest Cell to attract investments, alongside new foreign investment policies, AI data centers, and a ‘SEMICON’ program for the semiconductor sector. The semiconductor industry has gained global attention as a critical component of technology infrastructure, and 's focus on this sector could position it favorably in the competitive landscape. “In the first phase, investments worth ₹2,145 crore and over 31,000 jobs are expected in this sector,” he stated. The Information Technology department will be renamed to encompass ‘IT, Artificial Intelligence, and Future Technologies,’ while the State IT Mission will transform into the Digital Technology Mission. This rebranding reflects the government's intention to adapt to the rapidly changing technological environment and to enhance its capabilities in these vital areas.

Mr. Satheesan alleged that a group, supported by certain media establishments, attempted to discredit the government before it had even completed three months. “But their allegations lacked the lifespan of even 24 hours,” he remarked. This statement highlights the contentious political climate in which the government operates, where media narratives can quickly shape public perception. The government has emphasized comprehensive development and social welfare on a balanced note, suggesting a focus on both economic growth and the well-being of its citizens.

Election Promises and Achievements

Regarding election promises and the Indira Guarantees, he noted that the government has already introduced free travel for women on State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses and established a dedicated department for elderly welfare. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance social equity and accessibility, particularly for marginalized groups. Additionally, a 100-day program has been announced, under which 597 schemes are being implemented starting from July 1, 2026. This ambitious plan aims to address various social and economic challenges faced by the state.

Work is progressing on ‘Mission Samudra,’ which aims to develop the state as a ‘Port City.’ This ₹400 crore project seeks to transform the state’s coast into a global manufacturing hub, thereby potentially boosting the local economy and creating numerous job opportunities. The strategic development of port infrastructure is crucial in enhancing trade capabilities and attracting foreign investment, which can lead to sustainable growth.

Mr. Satheesan also highlighted the ‘Operation Toofan’ anti-narcotics drive, timely welfare pension payments, and measures to control price rises during Onam among the government’s 100-day achievements. The anti-narcotics initiative illustrates the government's commitment to addressing social issues that affect public safety and health. “A hundred days is a brief period. However, the government can confidently state that it has made progress towards its goal of governance with empathy,” he said, referencing his Revised Budget speech in June, where he called for cooperation to create a ‘Puthuyuga Vikasitha’ state through empathetic governance. This vision emphasizes the importance of collaboration between the government and citizens, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility.
