Known affectionately as 'uncle Niketu', he was a man of remarkable qualities and insights. Reflecting on my conversations with him over the years, I feel compelled to share my understanding of a figure who significantly impacted many lives.

At the heart of uncle Niketu's worldview was the belief that the Naga people were central to all discussions. His life’s work was dedicated to addressing the myriad crises facing Naga society. In one of our discussions about transformative initiatives, he remarked, "Those who have been responding to our people’s crisis are grappling with realities that raise deeply felt questions… Nothing is more important than that for our people in crisis." This statement encapsulates his commitment to the Naga cause.

Growing up in the Naga Hills, uncle Niketu navigated a complex world shaped by Western knowledge systems. Over time, he began to center his perspective on the Naga people, allowing him to analyze their crises within a broader geopolitical context. His approach was characterized by a concentric circle model, where the Naga identity formed the innermost circle, surrounded by an understanding of neighboring regions.

Uncle Niketu's realism contrasted sharply with classical Machiavellian perspectives. He viewed realpolitik through a restorative lens, asking, "How am I impacting others?"
