Tiranga Rally in Srinagar Set to Attract 20,000 Participants Led by LG Sinha

Leh, India Aug 12, 2026 ALN: The stage is all set for the massive Tiranga Rally in Srinagar on Wednesday (August 12, 2026), with the Traffic Police issuing an advisory for motorists and identifying three designated parking places. This rally is anticipated to be a significant event in the region, drawing attention not only for its scale but also for its symbolic representation of national pride and unity.

The rally will commence from the lawns of the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) and culminate at the Botanical Garden, a picturesque location that serves as a backdrop for various cultural and public events in Srinagar. As per officials, the rally is expected to be led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, with nearly 20,000 participants expected to take part. This large turnout reflects a growing enthusiasm among the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir for national events, particularly in the context of recent efforts to promote integration and unity within the region.

According to details, theme-based selfie points will be installed at SKICC and the Botanical Garden to encourage participants to capture and upload photographs. This initiative aims to create a vibrant social media presence around the event, fostering a sense of community and pride among participants. NCC volunteers have been asked to facilitate participants at these selfie points, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to engage with the event in a fun and memorable way. Theme-based colouring of tree trunks along the rally route will be undertaken, and the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) will install the National Flag on electric poles along the route, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.

Officials have also directed organisers to sensitise participants about adherence to the National Flag Code, emphasizing the importance of respecting national symbols. This is particularly relevant in a region like Jammu and Kashmir, where national pride can sometimes be a contentious issue. The call for organising a Shikara Tiranga Rally in Dal Lake as part of the celebrations speaks to the unique cultural identity of the region, as Shikaras are traditional wooden boats that are synonymous with the beauty of Dal Lake.

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, directed all concerned departments and stakeholders to ensure overwhelming participation in the rally. He called upon officers to ensure that participants reach SKICC well in advance to facilitate the smooth conduct of the event. This proactive approach is indicative of the administration's commitment to making the rally a success, reflecting the importance of community engagement in governance.

The Div Com stressed the need for foolproof security arrangements at all venues and along the designated rally route. Given the historical context of unrest in the region, security remains a top priority. He directed the constitution of a committee comprising officers from SMC, Police, and the Sainik Welfare Department to monitor strict compliance with the Flag Code during the event. The emphasis on security and adherence to protocols underscores the administration's aim to create a safe environment for all participants, which is essential for fostering a sense of belonging and celebration among the citizens.

The rally is part of a larger initiative, with Tiranga rallies being organised across all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir from 9 August to 17 August 2026. This widespread participation is intended to instill a sense of national pride and unity among the diverse populations of the region. In preparation for this campaign, 14,03,496 National Flags have been requisitioned by districts for distribution across Jammu and Kashmir, facilitating large-scale participation in the campaign. This logistical effort highlights the significance of the event and the administration's commitment to involving citizens in national celebrations.

In view of the Tiranga Rally, traffic movement along Boulevard Road from Lalit Ghat to Kralsangri will remain restricted for five hours on 12 August. The restrictions are intended to ensure that the rally proceeds smoothly and safely, allowing participants to focus on the celebration rather than navigating traffic issues. According to an advisory issued by the Srinagar Traffic Police, the restrictions will remain in force from 5 AM to 10 AM to facilitate the movement of VIPs, dignitaries, and participants and to prevent congestion on roads.

The advisory, issued by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Traffic City Srinagar, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, stated that participants have been directed to park their vehicles only at designated locations. Official vehicles will be parked at the Botanical Garden, while participants can use the parking facility near Barista at Lalit Ghat and at Makai Point towards Kralsangri. The Traffic Police warned that vehicles parked along roadsides or at unauthorised locations will be towed, emphasizing the need for adherence to traffic regulations to ensure the safety and orderliness of the event.

Motorists travelling towards Nishat, Shalimar, and Harwan have been advised to use the Dalgate–Rainawari–Hazratbal route instead of Boulevard Road. Similarly, motorists travelling from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat, and adjoining areas towards Lal Chowk have been advised to take the Foreshore–Hazratbal route instead of the Nishat–Boulevard Road axis. Those travelling from Gulab Bagh, Zakura, Naseembagh, Habak, and adjoining areas towards Lal Chowk have been advised to use the Habak Dargah–Khanyar route instead of Foreshore Road. This careful planning reflects the authorities' commitment to maintaining traffic flow and ensuring the safety of all participants and attendees during the rally.

The Traffic Police stated that emergency vehicles would be allowed to take the shortest available route. Citizens requiring assistance have been asked to contact the Traffic Police Control Room on 103.
