In a recent meeting, Tirap Deputy Commissioner Badonlum Tawsik emphasized the need for improved collaboration between banks and government departments to ensure timely delivery of welfare schemes.
Itanagar, India Jul 26, 2026 ALN: KHONSA, 25 Jul: Tirap Deputy Commissioner Badonlum Tawsik stressed the importance of better coordination between banks and line departments to ensure government-sponsored schemes reach the right beneficiaries transparently and on time.
Chairing a District Consultative Committee (DCC) and District Level Review Committee (DLRC) meeting here on Friday, the DC urged all departments to work in convergence with financial institutions to improve credit flow, create livelihood opportunities, strengthen financial inclusion, and accelerate the socioeconomic development of Tirap district.
The significance of this call for enhanced coordination cannot be overstated. In many regions, particularly in remote and underserved areas like Tirap, the gap between government initiatives and actual beneficiary outreach can be vast. This disconnect often results in delays and inefficiencies that hinder development efforts. By fostering collaboration between banks and government departments, Tawsik aims to bridge this gap, ensuring that resources are not only allocated but also effectively utilized.
Tawsik also urged all banks to conduct financial literacy camps, with special focus on villages along the Indo-Myanmar border and areas covered under the Vibrant Villages Programme-II (VVP-II). Financial literacy is crucial in empowering communities, particularly in regions where access to banking services may be limited. By providing education on financial products and services, individuals can make informed decisions, which in turn can lead to better economic outcomes for families and communities.
The emphasis on the Indo-Myanmar border villages highlights a strategic focus on areas that may face unique challenges, including cross-border economic activities, cultural exchanges, and security concerns. The VVP-II initiative aims to promote holistic development in these border villages, and the integration of banking services is a vital component of this strategy.
Tawsik stressed the need to create greater awareness about banking services, social security schemes, digital banking, and government-sponsored programmes to strengthen financial inclusion and improve outreach in these remote areas. Financial inclusion is not merely about access to banking services; it encompasses the ability to use these services effectively. This includes understanding the benefits of digital banking, which can provide a more efficient and secure way to manage finances, especially in the context of the ongoing digital transformation across India.
He further highlighted the importance of timely disposal of loan applications, effective implementation of government flagship schemes, regular monitoring of beneficiaries, and wider public awareness of banking and financial assistance programmes. The timely processing of loan applications is critical for individuals seeking financial support, as delays can derail projects and economic opportunities. By ensuring that government schemes are effectively implemented and monitored, the district can better support its residents in achieving their economic goals.
The Deputy Commissioner urged all stakeholders to resolve bottlenecks through mutual coordination and collective efforts to achieve inclusive and sustainable development. This call for collaboration is particularly pertinent in a district like Tirap, where diverse socioeconomic factors can influence the effectiveness of development initiatives. By working together, stakeholders can identify and address specific challenges faced by the community, ensuring that development efforts are tailored to local needs.
NABARD District Development Manager Rowncha Wangsu presented the bank’s performance review for the quarters ending March and June 2026. NABARD, or the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, plays a pivotal role in providing financial and developmental support to rural areas in India. The performance review serves as a critical tool for assessing the effectiveness of banking initiatives and identifying areas for improvement.
Wangsu highlighted the achievements under priority sector lending, financial inclusion initiatives, government-sponsored schemes, and the credit-deposit ratio. Priority sector lending is essential for ensuring that underprivileged sectors, such as agriculture and small-scale industries, receive the necessary financial support. The review of financial inclusion initiatives is particularly relevant in the context of the ongoing efforts to integrate marginalized communities into the formal banking system.
The progress made by various departments under different developmental and livelihood programmes was also reviewed. This holistic approach ensures that all aspects of development are considered, from agriculture to education, and that financial institutions are aligned with the broader goals of the district. By reviewing progress across multiple sectors, stakeholders can identify synergies and opportunities for collaboration.
During the meeting, the committee discussed agricultural credit, horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry, self-employment, education loans, self-help group financing, and the implementation of various central and state government-sponsored schemes. These discussions highlight the diverse economic activities present in Tirap and the need for tailored financial products and services that cater to the specific needs of different sectors.
Suggestions were made to improve banking services, increase institutional credit, and strengthen coordination among all stakeholders. The importance of institutional credit cannot be understated, as it provides the necessary financial resources for individuals and businesses to invest in growth and development. By increasing access to credit, the district can foster entrepreneurship and stimulate economic activity.
All participating departments and financial institutions pledged to work together to strengthen financial services, promote financial inclusion, and foster inclusive and sustainable development across the district. This commitment to collaboration is crucial for ensuring that the benefits of development reach all segments of the population, particularly those who have historically been marginalized or excluded from formal financial systems.
The meeting was attended by representatives from various line departments and financial institutions, underscoring the collective effort required to address the complex challenges facing Tirap. As the district moves forward, the emphasis on coordination and collaboration will be essential in realizing the full potential of government-sponsored schemes and fostering a more inclusive and prosperous community.
