Andaz Delhi Faces FSSAI Action After Discovery of Expired Sweets

New Delhi, India Aug 27, 2026 ALN: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken action against the five-star hotel Andaz Delhi, located in Aerocity, after an inspection revealed significant food safety violations, including the presence of nearly 87 kg of expired sweets.

During the inspection, food safety officials discovered not only expired sweets but also an expired cake base and packets of bread. The expired sweets were disposed of immediately, as per the regulations set forth by the food safety authority. The presence of expired food items raises serious concerns about the hotel's adherence to food safety regulations, which are designed to protect consumers from potential health risks associated with the consumption of spoiled or unsafe food products.

The FSSAI stated, "Notices have been issued to Juniper Hotels Pvt Ltd (Andaz, Aerocity, Delhi) and JW Marriott, Delhi, following inspections that uncovered serious food safety violations. Regulatory samples were collected, and further action will be determined based on compliance and the analysis of these samples." This statement underscores the seriousness of the violations found during the inspection and indicates that the FSSAI is prepared to take further action based on the results of their investigations.

Concerns were also raised regarding the handling of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The inspection revealed that vegetarian and non-vegetarian cutting boards were being washed together in the same water container. This practice poses a risk of cross-contamination, which can lead to foodborne illnesses. Additionally, vegetarian burners in the room-dining kitchen were reportedly used for preparing non-vegetarian dishes, further complicating the potential for cross-contamination and violating food safety protocols.

Further findings included the presence of active cockroaches near freezers, as well as houseflies, mosquitoes, and spider webs throughout the premises. The presence of pests in food preparation areas is a critical violation of health standards, as it can lead to contamination of food products and poses a direct threat to consumer health.
