This brings the total number of similar cases reported in the city to 13 within the last month. According to hospital authorities, these women were referred from various healthcare facilities after their conditions worsened post-delivery. Currently, they are receiving treatment at Umaid Hospital, a key medical institution in Jodhpur that serves a large population in the region. The hospital has been under scrutiny due to the recent surge in postpartum complications, as well as a separate incident involving a blood transfusion error that has drawn public attention.

Dr. Mohan Makwana, the Superintendent of Umaid Hospital, reported that one patient is on ventilator support, while three others are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Another patient has been admitted to the general ward and is reported to be stable. The varying conditions of the patients underscore the severity of the complications being faced by postpartum women in the area.

All five women are suffering from severe postpartum bleeding, which necessitated advanced medical care. Dr. Makwana stated that there is currently no evidence indicating that the medications administered to the patients are responsible for these complications, as all patients have followed the same treatment protocol. Pooja, from Shergarh, remains in the ICU after experiencing excessive blood loss, while Roshni, referred from a private hospital in Nagaur, developed complications related to high blood pressure and a breech pregnancy and is also receiving oxygen support in the ICU. Additionally, another woman referred from the Jaitaran-Bajju region is being treated for low platelet count and has received blood component therapy, further illustrating the range of complications that can arise during the postpartum period.

This latest incident follows a previous episode on June 20, when eight women developed health complications after Caesarean deliveries at Pawta District Hospital. While all eight women later recovered, investigations reportedly found no issues with the operation theatre, medications, or laboratory tests. Her condition deteriorated, leading to kidney complications, and she is currently undergoing dialysis in the ICU at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. An inquiry committee has reportedly identified that the transfusion error occurred due to a failure to follow proper verification and cross-matching procedures.
