Itanagar, India Aug 24, 2026 ALN: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made significant strides in solar energy by commissioning 23.7 MWp of solar power capacity between January and July 2026, marking the highest addition among all zonal railways of Indian Railways. This milestone is not only a testament to NFR's commitment to renewable energy but also reflects the broader initiatives undertaken by Indian Railways to transition towards sustainable energy sources.
This recent expansion brings NFR's total installed solar capacity to 42.1 MWp as of July 2026, a remarkable achievement since the initiation of its solarisation initiative in 2011. The Lumding Division, which includes the Guwahati area, leads with the highest cumulative solar installation at 17.7 MWp. Following closely is the Rangiya Division with 9.6 MWp. During the fiscal year 2025-26, NFR generated approximately 114 lakh units of solar power, resulting in savings of around Rs 8.6 crore.
