Three Assam Participants Earn Government-Certified Tea Sommelier Credentials

Dispur, India Aug 26, 2026 ALN: Three participants from Assam were among seven who completed the 60-hour “Essentials of Tea Sommelier” course conducted by Tea Board India at the Darjeeling Tea Research & Development Centre, Kurseong, from August 3 to 9. This initiative marks a significant step in the formal recognition of tea sommelier skills in India, a country renowned for its rich tea culture and vast variety of teas.

The NCVET-approved programme was aligned to NSQF Level 4 and covered essential aspects of tea appreciation, tasting, blending, and artisanal tea practices. The curriculum was designed to enhance the participants' understanding of tea, focusing on five core areas: tea tasting protocols, palate development, tea blending and innovation, and future-oriented tea practices. This comprehensive approach not only equips participants with the skills necessary to excel in the field but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the complexities of tea.
