Delhi to Host 'Ticket to Hornbill' Festival Prelude and Music Battle

Kohima, India Aug 27, 2026 ALN: Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along has announced the "Ticket to Hornbill" event, which serves as a prelude to the much-anticipated Hornbill Festival held annually in December. This two-day showcase is scheduled for October 16 and 17 at the Talkatora Stadium in Delhi. The Hornbill Festival, often referred to as the "Festival of Festivals," is a vibrant celebration that showcases the rich cultural heritage of , featuring traditional music, dance, and crafts from various tribes.

During a press conference, Along emphasized the importance of bringing the Naga traditions and heritage to the national capital, stating, "We always tell people to come to ; this time, we are bringing our traditions to Delhi. It will be a grand programme that will showcase the thoughts and ideologies of the Naga people." This initiative represents a strategic move to promote the cultural identity of beyond its geographical confines, highlighting the state's unique traditions and practices.

Organized by the Tourism Department and the Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), the event will also feature a nationwide band competition with a total prize pool of ₹25 lakh. This initiative aims to introduce audiences to the rich music, heritage, and artistic character of ahead of the main festival in December. The winning band will have the opportunity to perform at the Hornbill Music Festival in December and will receive a cash prize of ₹10 lakh. This competition not only incentivizes participation but also aims to elevate the visibility of independent musicians in the Indian music scene, which has historically been challenging for emerging artists.

TaFMA chairman Theja Meru noted, "Independent bands often have the ability but lack access to major venues, industry attention, and meaningful financial support. This competition addresses those gaps through a live national contest, substantial prizes, and a direct route to the Hornbill Music Festival. We are looking for original musicianship, strong performance, and artistic conviction."
