Adani Energy Solutions has won a ₹4,700 crore project to transmit 4,500 MW of renewable energy from Karnataka to Maharashtra, enhancing the region's energy infrastructure.
Shillong, India Aug 26, 2026 ALN: Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) announced on Wednesday that it has secured a ₹4,700 crore transmission project aimed at evacuating 4,500 MW of renewable energy generated in Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra. This initiative is set to bolster the pumped storage ecosystem in the Satara, Pune, and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The project was awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process, where AESL emerged as the lowest bidder, as stated in a company release. "Pumped storage projects are becoming essential for India’s clean energy transition, providing the flexibility and reliability needed to integrate large-scale renewable energy into the grid," remarked Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd.
The Satara transmission project will establish a crucial transmission backbone that supports both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment, thereby enhancing power flows between Southern and Western India. The project will be managed under the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Satara Power Transmission Ltd and is expected to be completed within 36 months. It will add 562 circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s portfolio, increasing its cumulative transmission network to 29,739 ckm and 143,425 MVA transformation capacity, according to the company, which is India’s largest private transmission and distribution entity and part of the globally diversified Adani portfolio.
“AESL is dedicated to constructing future-ready transmission infrastructure that facilitates renewable energy growth, enhances grid stability, and supports India’s long-term decarbonisation objectives,” Patel added. The project includes the establishment of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line, and the augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station along with associated transmission infrastructure.
As India moves towards its goal of installing 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030, AESL is leading the sector by developing specialized transmission schemes that connect resource-rich green areas—such as solar, wind, and pumped storage—with major industrial and urban load centres across the country.
The significance of this project extends beyond just the immediate benefits of increased transmission capacity.
