The second day of Bharat Tex 2026 highlighted state-led industrial growth, investment promotion, and India's global textile trade partnerships, focusing on FTAs and manufacturing opportunities.

The second day of Bharat Tex 2026 was a pivotal moment in the ongoing dialogue regarding state-led industrial growth and investment promotion within India's textile sector. This event is particularly significant as it aligns with India's strategic vision to enhance its global textile trade partnerships. The discussions during this day emphasized key areas such as manufacturing, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), and the myriad opportunities that exist across the textile value chain.

Bharat Tex 2026 is a four-day event that commenced on July 14 and will conclude on July 17, attracting a diverse array of participants including state governments, policymakers, industry leaders, and global trade experts. The primary aim of the event is to explore innovative ways to strengthen India’s textile and apparel sector, thereby enhancing its competitiveness on a global scale. This initiative is particularly timely, as the global textile market is undergoing rapid changes, with countries increasingly seeking to diversify their sourcing options and reduce dependency on traditional manufacturing hubs.

Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh and Textiles Secretary Neelam Shami Rao were actively involved in the day's engagements, emphasizing the government's commitment to fostering a robust textile ecosystem. Their interactions with stakeholders underscored the importance of collaboration between government entities and the private sector in driving growth within the industry.

States Showcase Textile Strengths

A standout feature of the day was the Uttar Pradesh State Session, where the state government took the opportunity to present its burgeoning textile ecosystem. Uttar Pradesh is increasingly recognized for its investment potential in various segments of the textile industry, including manufacturing, apparel, handloom, and handicrafts. The session was attended by prominent figures such as Uttar Pradesh Handloom and Textiles Minister Rakesh Sachan and Minister of Stamp and Court Fee and Registration Ravindra Jaiswal, who highlighted the state's strategic initiatives aimed at attracting investments and creating employment opportunities.

In addition to Uttar Pradesh, the Karnataka State Session showcased the state's established strengths in textiles and apparel. Karnataka is known for its robust industrial base, which provides a conducive environment for companies looking to expand their manufacturing and sourcing operations. The discussions highlighted the state's commitment to innovation and sustainability, two critical factors that are increasingly influencing investment decisions in the textile sector.

Furthermore, the Government of Maharashtra organized a session titled “Maharashtra: An Attractive Global Destination for Technical Textiles in India.” During this session, Maharashtra Textiles Minister Sanjay Savkare elaborated on the state's potential in the technical textiles segment. As the demand for specialized and high-performance textiles continues to rise, Maharashtra is positioning itself as a hub for technology-driven manufacturing and investment, which could significantly enhance its role in the global textile supply chain.

The discussions during these state sessions not only highlighted the unique strengths of each region but also underscored the increasing importance of specialized textiles in India's overall industrial growth. This focus on niche markets is crucial as it can lead to higher value-addition and better profit margins for manufacturers.

Focus on Global Trade and FTAs

Global trade and Free Trade Agreements were central themes during the day's program. A session titled “Scaling Through Synergy: Building Local Capability to Power Global Textile Value Chains,” organized by ITMF and ASSOCHAM, explored strategies to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities. This discussion was particularly relevant as it addressed the need for Indian enterprises to integrate more effectively into global textile value chains, which are increasingly characterized by complex interdependencies and collaborations.

Another significant roundtable titled “India’s FTA Moment: Gateway for Textile Value Chains, Market Access and Sourcing Decisions,” organized by Deloitte, examined the potential of India's FTAs to unlock new opportunities for textile manufacturers, exporters, and sourcing companies. By improving market access and enhancing value-chain integration, these agreements could play a crucial role in positioning India as a preferred sourcing destination in the global textile market.

The event also featured contributions from leading fashion designers Rahul Mishra and Vaishali Shadangule, who participated in a discussion titled “Global Ambitions: Redefining Retail Growth Beyond Borders.” Their insights focused on strategies to strengthen Brand India in international markets, emphasizing the need for innovation and sustainability in design and production processes.

Additionally, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) hosted a fireside conversation on “Building Global Fashion Enterprises from India: Innovation, Sustainability and Scale.” This session highlighted the importance of nurturing creativity and entrepreneurship within the textile and fashion sectors, aiming to cultivate a new generation of global fashion leaders from India.

India–UK CETA and Sustainable Supply Chains

A significant ministerial discussion on “India–UK CETA in Action: Shaping the Future of Textile Trade and Investment,” organized by Deloitte, explored the emerging opportunities from the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). This agreement is poised to enhance textile trade and investment flows between the two nations, fostering stronger business partnerships. The implications of such agreements are profound, as they can lead to increased market access and collaboration between Indian textile manufacturers and UK retailers.

Moreover, another session by Heartland Industries, titled “Beyond China: Building Tariff-Safe, Compliant & Traceable Hemp Supply Chains for Global Markets,” focused on the critical importance of developing diversified, compliant, and traceable supply chains. This is becoming increasingly vital for Indian businesses aiming to serve global markets effectively and sustainably, particularly in the wake of rising consumer demand for transparency and ethical sourcing practices.

Sustainability Awards

During the event, the CITI Textile Sustainability Awards 2026 were presented, recognizing excellence across seven key areas: resource efficiency, energy and emissions, circular economy, sustainable materials, social responsibility, responsible business practices, and industry collaboration. These awards serve not only to celebrate achievements within the industry but also to promote a culture of sustainability and responsibility among textile manufacturers.

Day 3 to Feature Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister

Looking ahead, the organizers announced that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will visit Bharat Tex 2026 on Friday. His participation is anticipated to further stimulate discussions around investment and entrepreneurship in the textile sector. Chief Minister Yadav is expected to interact with exhibitors and visit the Madhya Pradesh Pavilion, showcasing the state’s commitment to enhancing its textile industry.

The second day of Bharat Tex 2026 underscored the vital role of state governments in developing competitive textile ecosystems while leveraging global trade opportunities. The event continues to serve as a crucial platform for bringing together governments, industry leaders, manufacturers, exporters, buyers, and international partners, all working collaboratively to strengthen India’s position in the global textile industry. The outcomes of such engagements are likely to have far-reaching implications for the future of textile manufacturing and trade in India, especially as the country seeks to capitalize on emerging global trends and consumer demands.
